The Yellow Eyed Penguin is one of the least numerous species of penguin. They nest in colonies along the west coast of the South Island of New Zealand in relatively small, disperse colonies. On certain beaches, like this one at Otago, they can be seen to come out of the surf at dusk, and make the lonely treck to the dunes where they nest. Sigma 400mm f/5.6
